MU makes first move with ‘killer’ dominating Europe

Viktor Gyökeres has been heavily linked with a move to Man United in recent weeks, and the rumours have only intensified since the Red Devils appointed Ruben Amorim from Sporting CP.

Under Amorim, Gyökeres has developed into one of Europe’s most lethal strikers, and Man Utd are keen to complete a move for the former Coventry City star in the summer transfer window.

According to FootballTransfer, Man Utd are ready to trigger the €100m release clause in Gyökeres’ current contract with Sporting. The club are also looking to offload Joshua Zirkzee after a poor start to life in England.

Arsenal have also expressed interest in Gyökeres in 2025, while Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are all said to be pursuing the 26-year-old striker.

However, Man Utd are determined to win this race. According to The Sun, they sent Sergio Souza – one of the leading scouts in Scandinavia – to watch Gyökeres in action for Sweden against Slovakia on November 17.

The Sporting star opened the scoring in the third minute and then assisted Alexander Isak, taking his total contributions to 36 goals and assists in just 23 games for both club and country this season.

What did Gyökeres say about joining United?

Ahead of the November international break, Gyökeres was asked if he would like to follow Ruben Amorim to Man Utd in 2025:

“He probably has a few strikers there already, so we’ll see,” the Sporting star told Swedish site fotbollskanlen.

“No, he hasn’t asked me to join. It’s nice, but I don’t take it too seriously because it’s just speculation, nothing concrete yet.”
