Ronaldo reportedly keen on returning to Man Utd under Amorim

Louis Saha says Cristiano Ronaldo would “love to return to Manchester United” if his “friend” Ruben Amorim believes he can help the team.

There are questions surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future as he enters the final year of his contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr. There has been speculation that he could remain in the Middle East and move to Al-Hilal to fill the void left by Neymar’s imminent departure.

Ronaldo certainly intends to play for a long time to come, despite turning 40 in February 2025. Some believe he could still be relevant in the Premier League, with the striker’s impressive goalscoring rate for both club and country showing no signs of slowing.

Ronaldo’s old Portugal youth team mate Ruben Amorim is now a coach at Manchester United, and rumours of a reunion at Old Trafford have begun to swirl. CR7 has had two spells with the Red Devils – the first in which he won the Champions League and his first Ballon d’Or, and the second ended abruptly in November 2022 when he had a heated argument with Erik ten Hag.

Saha, who was Ronaldo’s team-mate during his memorable first spell in England, told Betfred why CR7 would welcome the chance to return if a familiar face came calling:

“I really think Cristiano Ronaldo would love to come back to the club in a role where he is respected. CR7 left the club on bad terms, so the board may not want that to happen, but the players and the fans understand what he means. You can’t say what he says is wrong.”

“Cristiano has a relationship with Ruben Amorim, but I don’t think he would sign Ronaldo just because they are friends. Amorim wouldn’t do it just to please his friends, he would only do it if he believed Cristiano could help. If there was a chance to come back, I’m sure CR7 would love to come back and help the club because he would love that challenge. If there was a chance, CR7 would come back.”

Despite being released by Manchester United following a controversial interview, Ronaldo still managed to score 27 goals in 54 appearances in his second spell with the Red Devils. He is now aiming to reach the 1,000-goal mark in his impressive career before considering retirement.
