Amorim says Man Utd must improve recruitment
Ruben Amorim stressed the importance of improving the player recruitment process at Manchester United. In his first press conference, he said there needs to be close cooperation in player selection, based on data and detailed profiles of targets.
Amorim also believes that understanding the league and having a unified vision are important factors when buying and selling players. He affirmed: “When everyone in the club is on the same page and has a clear plan, buying and selling players will be easier. Although the final decision is not mine alone, as head coach, I have a big responsibility in choosing players. This is the right way to work and is suitable for my position.”
Amorim ‘gives green light’ to Angel Gomes
Ruben Amorim is planning to strengthen the Manchester United squad and one of the potential targets is Angel Gomes. After the first draw under Amorim’s leadership, the Red Devils could soon make a move to sign Gomes from Lille. The England international is currently attracting interest from a host of big clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham, but United are said to be leading the race and Amorim have agreed to add Gomes to their squad.
Gomes – a former Manchester United youngster – is said to want to return to Old Trafford to continue the unfinished work at his former club. The addition of Gomes would help create a strong midfield trio with Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes, providing an ideal combination in the midfield area. This could be an important step for Amorim to rebuild a strong squad for Man United in the future.
PSG want to ‘penetrate’ MU
With Ruben Amorim officially taking charge at Manchester United, Marcus Rashford’s future in the 2024-25 season could be decided. However, the latest information shows that the England striker is still being pursued by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Although PSG struggled to complete the deal last summer, the Ligue 1 side may try again in the next transfer window.
PSG remain keen on Rashford and manager Luis Enrique believes he can return to his best form under his guidance. Rashford scored in his first game under Amorim as United drew 1-1 with Ipswich, which could be a positive sign for a better season. Alongside Rashford, PSG are also targeting a number of other attackers, including Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, to bolster their attack in the future.
Patience running out with Zirkzee
Joshua Zirkzee faces an uncertain future at Manchester United following Ruben Amorim’s takeover of the club. The Dutch striker, who joined United under Erik ten Hag, has struggled to settle into the Premier League, scoring just one goal in 17 games. The Red Devils’ board of directors do not trust Zirkzee and may sell him in the early transfer window next year.
Man United will be looking for a new striker in the summer of 2025, while Rasmus Hojlund will be given priority in the starting line-up.
